On this route we suggest you discover the North Costa Brava, one of the most appreciated coasts located northeast of Catalonia.

We have prepared a week-long route, also ideal for a longer vacation, especially in summer where you spend long hours enjoying the sea and the range of activities is more extensive. It can also be visited in less days or by making several short trips.

It is fascinating to make a getaway in any season of the year, although if you visit it in summer, you should bear in mind that there are many people and it is more difficult to circulate, park and find places to spend the night, it will be important to be well informed to facilitate the day to day.

On this route we suggest you spend the night in motorhome and camping areas to save time and searches, where you can find all the services for the motorhome. However, there are many places to explore and enjoy the adventure.

The North Costa Brava  is characterized by steep cliffs, wild vegetation that accompanies even the sea with beautiful beaches and coves with crystal clear waters. In the middle of this privileged natural environment we find small charming towns that invite you to stroll and guide you through the Mediterranean Sea.

1st day:

In Ruviway we suggest you start with the city of Figueras, a must-see is the Dalí Museum, inside you will find a great collection of works that make up the artistic career of the Empordà genius.

You can also visit the Toy Museum, very cool! (for boys and girls, young and old), or the castle of Sant Ferran. If you like the city, and you have more time, we suggest you stroll along the rambla where you will find shops, bars and restaurants.

Figueras is not very big, for parking it is better to get away from the center and look for parking lots from where you can access the city in 5 or 10 minutes.

To continue we approach to Llançà, it is about 20 km from Figueras, and it will take us only half an hour.

Llançà is a small fishing village, it has a wild coast with small and pleasant coves where if the weather is good you can take a good swim or rest while stopping in the sun. At sunset we recommend you stroll through the marina and fishing port. If you are lucky you will see the arrival of a fishing boat. You can fill your dispensation buying in the small shops around the port.

Leaving Llançà and heading to Cap de Creus we can sleep in Port de la Selva, it is only 12 kilometers along the coast. Right at the entrance we will find a private motorhome area with services within Camping l’Arola, where you can sleep a few meters from the sea (It has few spaces, so we recommend you booked).

Port de la Selva also has a large car park in front of the municipal pavilion (about 500 meters from the beach) where you can also choose to sleep.

2nd day:

Wake up in front of the sea, near the town, will allow you to discover the town, beaches and walkways without having to move the motorhome.

Port de la Selva has a very beautiful landscape, the landscapes combine the blue of the sea and the green of the vineyards. Near the sea rise mountains sculpted by the passage of time with peaks of remarkable height.

Among these mountains you can visit the Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes. 7 km from Port de la Selva by mountain road. It is a 10th century Benedictine monastery that impresses with its solemnity and elegance. Declared asset of cultural interest.

You can park in one of the several parking and it has very interesting guided tours.

We suggest you go back to sleep in Port de la Selva and spend the sunset on the beach or in some bar terrace in the town.

3rd day:

We continue the route through the Cap de Creus, it is a spectacular place, you will not forget the wild views, dotted with islets, with dizzying cliffs and hidden coves. If you look at the whimsical shapes that the erosion of the water and the wind have sculpted, you will be able to see lions, dragons, camels, eagles and other rock figures.

Getting to the Cap de Creus Lighthouse is a must as it is the easternmost place on the Iberian Peninsula. The lighthouse of Cap de Creus is located only 500 meters from the point, known as the Point of the back. Upstairs you will find a restaurant where you can admire the views and from where you can take a walk such as reaching the cave of hell.

To get to the lighthouse, the road is quite narrow and parking spaces are limited, it is advisable to go up at times when there is not much traffic. (It's necessary to ask permission to the local police to go there by motorhome and in any case is it allowed to spend the night there)

Back we can stop to visit Cadaqués. It is not allowed to park or circulate inside the town in a motorhome. We advise you to go down from the lighthouse to park in the pavilion car park and walk down to the center.

Cadaqués is one of the most beautiful and emblematic towns on the Costa Brava. The old nucleus occupies a rocky hill, on top of which stands the characteristic white church of Santa María. Strolling and enjoying its narrow streets with stone paving, visiting souvenir shops, art shops and ice cream parlors, will make you feel the beauty and simplicity of the place and the moment.

One of the most popular coves in Cadaqués is Portlligat where Dalí lived for a long time, apart from the beauty of the environment you can visit the Dalí house.

At sunset you can go to sleep in the motorhome area of Rosas, about 25 kilometers south of Cadaqués, l'Autocaravaning Park Roses is an area with all services, 67 large spaces and with automated entry.

4th day:

We invite you to stay all day in Rosas bay. In Rosas you can enjoy beautiful fine-grained beaches and white sand and stroll along the Ronda path to Puig Rom. In summer there are many water activities such as windsurfing, kitesurfing, scuba diving, boat trips, etc.

Rosas also offers many cultural proposals such as the Ciutadella de Rosas, the Castillo de la Trinidad or the Rosas and Perafita farmhouses where you can discover some of the Ampurdán wines and do wine tastings and winegrower breakfasts.

Near of Roses you can go to Empuriabrava, has an Aerodrome where the most daring can be parachuted.

It is also advisable to go to Castelló d’Empúries, walking through its streets is like taking a trip back in time. It is a Count city that preserves all the vestiges of its medieval capital. Every year there is a medieval festival "Terra de Trobadors", one of the most important medieval fairs in Catalonia.

You can sleep in the free motorhome parking in Castelló d’Empúries or go back to sleep in the motorhome park in Rosas.

5th day:

Leaving Castelló d’Empúries and about 5 km south, we will find one of the main wetlands in Catalonia, the Aigüamolls de l’Empordà. You can choose between several itineraries and routes to visit the different spaces that make up the Natural Park as a whole.

In the wetlands you will be able to observe a great variety of animal species. The predominant species are birds, which make wetlands their refuge habitat and their resting place. There are more than 300 species, many of them protected and of extraordinary beauty.

While you take a walk in the park you can entertain yourself in the different observatories, from where you can see the animals in their natural habitat and take beautiful pictures.

After a good time in nature, half an hour from the wetlands we find the Ruins of Empúries.

It is the most important Roman Greco Site in Catalonia. It was the gateway to Greek and Roman culture in the Iberian Peninsula. Where the remains of a Greek city coexist with those of a Roman city.

It is not necessary to be in love with history and archeology to appreciate the beauty of a living site where every year new treasures are escaped and come to light.

Between the Wetlands and the Ruins there is the town of Sant Pere Pescador and its long beaches, perfect for lovers of water sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing since, in this place, it is usually very windy.

In this area we find the largest grouping of camping on the Costa Brava. In summer they become small cities where thousands of campers are concentrated. We can find countless services (laundry, gym, beauty center, supermarket ...) and many activities such as swimming pools, children's entertainment, concerts, shows and much more.

If you prefer to escape from camping and people, you can go to L'Escala where you will find a motorhome service area where you can empty and load water for free but you will not be able to park. To spend the night, you will find a dirt car park a few meters away where motorhomes usually park.

6th day:

If you have spent the night in a camping it can be a good day to rest on the beach and/or do guided activities. If you do not travel in summer or want to continue visiting things, we suggest you spend the day in l’Escala.

L'Escala is one of the main tourist centers of the northern Costa Brava. It is a town projected to the sea where we find beaches close to the urban area, such as that of the boats and other beaches that are accessed through long walks that turn it around, such as Riells beach.

In the southernmost part of l’Escala is the popular Montgó beach, a typical beach with fine white sand, flanked by an old defense tower that serves as a perfect viewpoint and offers amazing views. In this area we find several camping to spend the night.

L’Escala offers a wide range of restaurants, pizzerias, ice cream parlors… and nightlife venues to also enjoy the night hours.
